Marcin Gawdzis, Ph.D. – born on 20.12.1972, jazz trumpeter, teacher, composer and arranger, jazz trumpet lecturer at the Department of Conducting, Jazz and Music Education at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. In 1995, he graduated from the Department of Jazz and Contemporary Music at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the trumpet class of prof. Piotr Wojtasik. In 1993 and 1995, together with THE SIMILARS and JOINT VENTURE, he won 1st prize and individual distinctions at the Jazz Juniors Festival in Krakow. In 1994 he won the 4th place at the International Jazz Improvisation Competition in Katowice. During his studies, he recorded trumpet solo parts along with pop music artists, including: KAYAH, RENI JUSIS, NATALIA KUKULSKA, MIETEK SZCZEŚNIAK, F.N.S, NOCNA ZMIANA BLUESA and KRZYSZTOF KRAWCZYK. He has performed in almost all European countries. He has a guest appearance in the recording of 35 albums of various artists, creating in various styles of entertainment music. He has co-produced three solo group albums and produced the original album of his quintet. In 2003, he received an individual award for the best instrumentalist at Jazz – Rock Festival in Olsztyn. Also this year he started cooperation with the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz. In 2012, he was awarded by the President of Elbląg City in the category of the Event of the Year. In 2014, for the solo album Shadows of Autumn, he was nominated for the Fryderyk Award in the category: Jazz Debut of the Year.
