The Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz is a state-owned, university-level school of music and artistic education institution training highly qualified instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, music theorists, sound engineers, music teachers and instructors, and vocal and vocal-instrumental ensemble conductors. Upon graduation, our students receive the Graduation Diploma and are awarded the degrees of licencjat (BA/ B.Mus.-equivalent), magister (MA/ M.Mus.-equivalent) and doktor sztuki (Polish for Doctor of Musical Art).

The teaching staff of the Academy are musicians representing a broad scope of artistic specializations as well as academics specializing in the humanities. Most of them combine teaching with intense artistic and scholarly activities. The fruits of their pedagogical and artistic work are numerous prizes and awards won by the students and graduates of our Academy in national as well as international competitions. Probably, the greatest achievement so far has been winning the 1st Prize in the 15th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition by Rafał Blechacz in 2005, a former student of Prof. Ekaterina Popova-Zydroń.

Among the staff are artists pursuing busy careers as world-renowned performers with rich repertoire recorded and published as CD albums – pianists: Tatiana Shebanova, Ewa Pobłocka and Jerzy Godziszewski; flautist Jadwiga Kotnowska; violinist Vadim Brodski; cellist Andrzej Bauer; tenor Piotr Kusiewicz; conductors: Zygmunt Rychert and Wojciech Michniewski; composers: Zbigniew Bargielski and Marek Jasiński.

The first person to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in 2007 was Prof. Jerzy Godziszewski, and most recently, in 2010, the outstanding Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son.
